A new profile, 99 years of Ducati history

The countdown begins!

It was July 4th, 1926, when in the heart of Bologna — buzzing with the scientific discoveries of Guglielmo Marconi and a spirit of technological progress — Antonio Cavalieri Ducati, together with his sons Adriano, Bruno, and Marcello, founded the Società Scientifica Radio Brevetti Ducati. Initially a company focused on radio communication technologies, it would eventually evolve into what it is today: a global icon on two wheels, uniquely combining technological innovation, passion, and a love for beauty.

The turning point came after World War II, in 1946, when Ducati introduced the Cucciolo — a small auxiliary engine designed to be mounted on bicycles — marking the brand’s entry into the world of two wheels. From that moment on, the company embarked on a journey of continuous innovation and evolution, establishing itself as one of the most iconic names in Italian manufacturing. Ducati motorcycles are renowned for their perfect blend of cutting-edge technology and irresistible design — a combination that continues to inspire on both road and track.

From the Ducati 60 — the first motorcycle fully produced at the Borgo Panigale factory in 1949 — to the beloved Scrambler of 1962, the birth of the Monster in 1992, the groundbreaking 916 in 1994, and the versatile Multistrada in 2003, Ducati’s history is filled with iconic models, legendary figures, and unforgettable achievements. One of the most influential names is Fabio Taglioni, the engineer who introduced desmodromic valve timing to Ducati’s racing bikes — a distinctive technical hallmark that still defines the brand’s racing DNA today. Alongside this innovation came historic victories: from long-distance races in the 1950s to the legendary 200 Miglia of Imola in 1972 with Paul Smart and Bruno Spaggiari, the Superbike dominance of the 1990s with stars like Carl Fogarty and Troy Bayliss, and the first MotoGP title won by Casey Stoner in 2007. Ducati’s legacy is marked by milestones that have made it one of the most beloved and successful motorcycle brands in the world.

Almost a century after that first iconic spark, Ducati is bringing its legacy to the digital stage: the official Ducati Museum Instagram profile is now live — follow @museoducati to explore the history, passion, and engineering genius behind the legend of Borgo Panigale.
